Jodi & Sean’s St Ives Harbour Hotel Wedding

“Hi Alan,

The photos are absolutely amazing, couldn’t have imagined them any better. Thank you so much, you captured everything. We had an absolutely amazing day which you were a big part of – you helped make it very special. Thank you so much for all your hard work.

We’re having a wedding blessing back home this weekend; all the photos will be shown at the party. Will try and choose photos for an album out but they’re all so lovely it will be very difficult!

Thanks again,

Jodi”

Such a sweet couple, these two! And no, I’m not biased – even though they’re both from the midlands, where I also hail from originally – I can objectively say that the couple and their friends and family were some of the friendliest, warmest people I’ve ever met. My wife would say that I am in fact terribly biased, but I do always say that Brummies are generally very gentle and friendly by nature, and Jodi and Sean were definitely no exception.

The day itself was fantastic; a lovely intimate ceremony at The St Ives Harbour Hotel (which is also known as The Porthminster), cocktails overlooking the ocean, some lovely time with just the two of them (and around a thousand Cornwall holidaymakers, of course!) down on the beach – and all with gorgeous sunshine throughout.

One of my favourite shots is that one above, where they’re surrounded by people, but lost in their own little world… I don’t think you need to seek out a totally free-of-people area to showcase two people’s feelings for each other (in fact, it’s quite an impossibility to find somewhere empty if you want to go to the beach in St Ives during a hot summer’s day!); my style is far more about capturing those natural moments, rather than artificially setting up a situation, and the photo at the top is a good example of this – in fact, I think the presence of the holidaymakers actually adds to the photo, not only giving it more of a sense of place and context, but also showing how Jodi and Sean are so lost in their own moment – we just got married! – that they could be in the middle of sinking-sand and not even notice. OK, a slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean!

I had a fab time covering the dancing, as well; a Michael Buble tribute act had been arranged, and he was great in getting everyone up and singing along. Some of my favourite moments happen later on, after the first dance, and Jodi and Sean’s family certainly enjoyed themselves too, singing their hearts out at times. I must say that I enjoyed a bit of a singalong too (can’t beat a bit of Buble!).

Enough of me; on to the photographs!
