If you’re looking for natural, real photographs of your family – the ones that show the real personality, the real character of your loved ones – then you’ve come to the right place! I’m Alan – nice to meet you! – and I’m a documentary family photographer in Cornwall. There are no white studio backgrounds, no forced smiles, no babies in baskets – what you get from me is natural, unbridled coverage of you and your family.

Of course, we can still get a few group shots of you all looking at the camera (if you want that), but the other 99% of my coverage is just about you all being yourselves, and me capturing it. Want to let loose with the bucket and spades on one of Cornwall’s many beaches? Great, I can be there to capture all the ‘gosh-this-is-freezing’ dips in the sea, the sand getting everywhere, and ice-creams-melting-before-they’re-finished moments. Shoot at home or your airbnb? Super, I’ll capture your kickarounds in the garden, the board game ‘bad loser’ moments, and everything in between!

What is Documentary Family Photography?

Simply put, it’s all about capturing real moments; real life.

When you look back at photos of your family in ten years’ time, do you want to see the fake ‘look at the camera faces’; the instagram-filtered selfies? Or do you want to see real moments – real, laugh-out-loud, I can’t believe Dad just fell in the stream captures; real emotional hugs as nan embraces her grandchildren; real gazes of love between mum and son.

Those real moments are the moments that matter – and that’s exactly what my approach as a documentary family photographer Cornwall is all about – not posing you, not asking you to all look at the camera, but instead capturing everything as it happens.
