Mikell and Nick’s wedding was full of firsts for me: The first time I’d shot in Plymouth Cathedral (which is magnificent), the first time I’d photographed a guard of honour (great fun), and the first time a major road closure caused the vintage bus carrying all the guests from the ceremony to reception venue, Polhawn Fort, to be an hour a half late (not so fun, but at least they got there in the end…!).
My coverage began at the Cathedral Church of St Mary and St Boniface in Plymouth; such an impressive venue – Nick and his groomsmen looked very smart in their Navy uniforms, practising the upcoming guard of honour. After that – and after the priest took his own photo of the bride and groom (another first for me!) – the party headed off to Polhawn Fort on a vintage bus. Little did they know that a road closure in Plymouth, and an accident near the reception venue, meant that they’d unfortunately be on that bus for much longer than expected…
But it didn’t matter in the end; we still had some time for some shots of just the two of them around the grounds, and good planning and great staff meant that everything else ran smoothly – including some fab speeches, the photos of which are some of my favourites.
So, without further ado, here are some of my fave images from Mikell and Nick’s wedding. (Family and friends can view the full set over here)
