Zarra & Chris’ Polhawn Fort Wedding
I’ve photographed quite a few weddings at Polhawn Fort over the years, but this was actually one of the most emotional.
Before the ceremony had even started there were already tears being wiped away. By the time the day was over there had been countless hugs, more than a few emotional moments between family members, and plenty of laughter mixed in as well.
One thing I always find interesting about Polhawn Fort weddings is how different they can feel from one another. The venue itself is instantly recognisable, of course. Sitting right on the Cornish coastline overlooking Whitsand Bay, it’s one of the most unique wedding venues in Cornwall. The sea views are incredible, the sunsets can be spectacular, and having the ceremony, reception and accommodation all in one place creates a really relaxed atmosphere.
But despite photographing lots of weddings there, I don’t think I’ve ever come away feeling that two days were remotely alike.
That’s because weddings are never really about venues.
They’re about people.
The nervous anticipation before a ceremony. The look on a parent’s face when they see their child getting married. Friends seeing each other for the first time in years. The hugs, tears, laughter and all the little interactions that happen in between the big moments.
For me, that’s what made Zarra and Chris’ wedding so memorable.
There was emotion everywhere throughout the day. From the morning preparations through to the ceremony and celebrations afterwards, it felt like one of those weddings where nobody was trying particularly hard to hide how much the day meant to them.
There was also a dog – which, as anyone who knows me will know, is always a very welcome addition to a wedding.
The photographs below are just a small selection from their day. Nothing posed, nothing staged, and no moments recreated afterwards. Just real moments as they happened.
If you’re planning a wedding at Polhawn Fort, hopefully these photographs give you a feel for what a wedding there can actually look like when the focus is simply on enjoying the day with the people you love most.
