Charlotte and Roger’s wedding at Meols Hall Tithe Barn, Southport, was a pretty special one for me, as it was the first time I’d shot a close friend’s wedding – I’ve known Roger since university (I still shudder to think of all the old videos he has of me from that time – but thankfully not digitized yet!) and it was a real honour to be asked to cover their day.
After a loooong train journey up from Cornwall the day before, I started my coverage with Charlotte and her bridesmaids’ preparations. I always love this time, full as it is with excitement, anticipation and nerves, and this was no exception (though they did have a nifty nerve-reducing spray which helped with the last point). Meols Hall itself is an impressive venue, the Tithe Barn large and airy, with some lovely surrounding walks and greenery to spend a few minutes away from from the party, letting it sink in that you’ve really just got married!
They made everything really personal, reciting their own created vows to each other, drawing individual images for each table (Roger is a very talented artist), it really was ‘their’ day, which I always love to see. Roger had a lot of family over from Italy, so permeated throughout the day (it seemed like every 5 minutes or so!) there would begin a chant of ‘Bacio! Bacio!’ (‘Kiss, Kiss!’), reaching such a crescendo that the couple would be forced to pucker up and give in – not that they minded, though!
And any wedding that has an appearance from Bert from Sesame Street has just got to be great…!
