Lusty Glaze Wedding Photographer

Lusty Glaze doesn’t really feel like any other wedding venue in Cornwall.

For a start, you can’t just wander straight in.

Instead, you make your way down 133 steps from the cliff top to the private beach below. It’s something almost every couple mentions before their wedding. Will guests mind the steps? Will older relatives be OK? Will everyone still be smiling by the time they reach the bottom?

Having photographed a number of weddings at Lusty Glaze now, I can honestly say I’ve never known the steps to be an issue.

If anything, they become part of the experience.

By the time everyone reaches the sand, the outside world seems to disappear. The traffic, the shops and the bustle of Newquay are suddenly replaced by waves, cliffs and sea air. It feels wonderfully cut off from everything else, and that’s part of what makes weddings here so special.

I’ve now photographed several weddings at Lusty Glaze, and every one has been completely different.

I’ve photographed intimate beach ceremonies with just a handful of guests, celebrity weddings, celebrations filled with children running barefoot across the sand, emotional speeches overlooking the Atlantic and dancefloors that have continued long after the sun disappeared behind the cliffs.

The venue provides an incredible backdrop, but the photographs I remember most rarely have anything to do with the scenery.

They’re about people.

Parents trying not to cry during the ceremony.

Friends laughing so hard during the speeches that they can barely breathe.

Children treating the beach like one enormous playground.

Couples stealing a few quiet moments together by the shoreline before heading straight back to the party.

That’s one of the reasons I love photographing weddings at Lusty Glaze. The beach naturally encourages people to relax. Shoes come off. Guests wander down to the water. Conversations happen sitting on driftwood or with a drink in hand looking out across the sea. It never feels overly formal, even when the wedding itself is elegant.

As a documentary wedding photographer, those are exactly the sorts of weddings where I feel most at home.

I’m not interested in turning your wedding into a photoshoot. In fact, one of the biggest advantages of Lusty Glaze is that there’s no need to disappear for an hour making portraits. The beach is right there throughout the day, so if we spend a few minutes together by the water, you’re never far from your guests before heading straight back to the celebrations.

Below you’ll find a collection of real weddings I’ve photographed at Lusty Glaze over the years. They include weddings in blazing sunshine, celebrations where the Atlantic looked almost tropical, emotional ceremonies, hilarious speeches and some wonderfully chaotic dancefloors.

Every photograph was taken as the day naturally unfolded.

No posing.

No staging.

No awkward interruptions.

Just real people enjoying one of Cornwall’s most unique wedding venues.
