Charlie and Mike’s Scarlet Hotel Wedding

“I find it difficult to express just how much of a difference you made to the whole process… By taking photos in the way you do – candid and natural, rather than posed – I was able to just relax and stop thinking about it. As a result I absolutely adore the pictures!” (you can read the rest of Charlie’s lovely email to me over here).

What a wedding this was! Charlie and Mike were an absolute joy to be around – just so relaxed, and obviously in their element to have their closest friends and family sharing their day. By having the exclusive use of the fabulous Scarlet Hotel in Mawgan Porth (one of Cornwall’s finest hotels) their entire day had an amazingly ‘welcome’ feel to it; as if I was covering a wedding in their very own home (albeit one with an amazing ocean view, top-notch restaurant, and spa facilities too!).

On receiving the photos, Charlie and Mike both sent me some of the loveliest emails, one of which you can read in full over here.

I started the day by covering a game of football (Australian rules, I think…?) with the groom and his friends down on the beach, and then made my way to Charlie’s room, where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids. Everyone was so relaxed, seemed to be no nerves around at all!

The ceremony itself continued in this very laid-back style, with guests sitting or standing freely as they pleased within the room. It was also the first ceremony I’ve covered that has been broadcast live over the internet, as you’ll see in some of the photos below.

So many highlights: two different bands, fabulous food (thanks so much for the meal, Charlie and Mike!), no less than 9 different speeches, drinks overlooking the sunset, the longest fireworks display I’ve ever seen at a wedding, and the most unique first dance I’ve ever seen too…

Yes, that first dance. You see, Charlie and Mike didn’t really want to do a first dance at all, so – I think as a combination of a great surprise for their guests, and being able to have a great excuse not to do it themselves! – they hired a couple of professional dancers to do their first dance for them. Wearing super-large masks of the bride and groom, no less!

OK, I know I’ve rambled on too much here, but I honestly loved this wedding so much. Here’s a large selection of photographs from their day.
