Documentary Wedding Photographer Polhawn Fort

Polhawn Fort is the venue I’ve actually shot the most at – I must be coming up to 20 weddings or so there now – and I love it every time. It’s just such a unique place, overlooking the sea, with its very own private beach – and it’s really a venue that doesn’t make you do anything you don’t want; you can really make it totally personal to you. Get married inside or out? Pasties for late-night snacks? Paddle in the sea during your cocktail hour? Hire a stunt-plane as a surprise wedding gift? Hire an Italian metal band for your evening entertainment? You can do all of that, and I’ve seen all of that, at Polhawn.

Jen & Jonathan had two ceremonies, for example, at their Polhawn Fort wedding: An earlier tea ceremony, and then the afternoon main-event ceremony. These two were such a delight to photograph for – I don’t think I ever saw them not smiling. Absolutely love the surprise dance routine they pulled off before coming in for the wedding breakfast too – so funny!

“Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thanks so so much for these absolutely perfect photos.

Having had a look at them all last night, they made us laugh and cry and re-live the perfect day. You captured so many moments so candidly and so many fun moments with our guests that we didn’t see (impressively without us realising you were there a lot of the time). We have loved working with you so much!

We could not be happier with these.

Thank you,
Jen & Jonathan”

As I talk about throughout my site – and hopefully as you see from the photos themselves – my style really is about capturing your day totally naturally; not posing you, or asking you to look at the camera, but rather capturing everything as it happens. Hopefully you’ll get a good sense of this from the documentary wedding photography at Polhawn Fort below. Of course, if couples want some shots of just the two of them, or some group shots, that’s totally fine as well – I don’t force anything upon you in terms of coverage – but some of my couples don’t even want any of that, and instead want 100% of the day to be captured naturally.

Here are some of my favourites from Jen & Jonathan’s wedding, with some of my thoughts accompanying some of the images too:

One of Jen’s bridesmaids getting ready for the tea ceremony. Lovely large, light rooms to get ready in at Polhawn. I lile the angle of this capture, slightly from above and to the side, making for a more interesting composition.
Just love Jen’s laugh whilst exchanging looks between her new husband here. And the colours!
Have you ever seen a cooler looking – or cooler named! – dog than Tipsy? Love dogs at weddings; more please!

Showing their brand new rings just after being pronounced husband and wife!
The surprise dance routine I mentioned earlier. They nailed it, and their guests absolutely loved it.

Still no posing here; just the couple enjoying a bit of time alone down on Polhawn’s private beach. There are not many venues where you can paddle on your wedding day. Cornwall can look like the Med, too, when we get good weather like this.
Guests enjoying the view from Polhawn’s lawn. Quite the sunset you get there.
The cake cutting is a very traditional thing, which more and more of my couples don’t do at all – but it can still be done with a bit of irony! Much laughter can thus ensue.
I told you they never stopped smiling! A lovely moment from their First Dance,
…and though I don’t pose, J & J wanted a shot of them under their neon sign, and – of course – I wasn’t going to say no! Congrats to the brand new Mr. and Mrs. Tipper!
